Předkládaná diplomová práce vznikla ve spolupráci se společností ÚJV Řež, a. s. za účelem možnosti aplikace malých modulárních jaderných reaktorů v odlehlých oblastech, konkrétně v dolech na severu Kanady. Teoretická část je věnována popisu současné situace těžebního průmyslu v Kanadě se zaměřením na oblasti Northwest Territories a Nunavut. Následně jsou popsány v současné době vyvíjené technologie využitelné pro malé modulární reaktory. Z popsaných technologií je podrobněji popsán projekt Energy Well pracující na bázi tekutých solí. Pro projekt Energy Well jsou popsány možnosti aplikace v odlehlých ostrovech Indonésie a výroby vodíku přidruženou k reaktoru. V praktické části jsou definována kritéria pro výběr lokalit s možnou aplikací malého modulárního reaktoru. Pro zvolené projekty je vytvořeno ekonomické porovnání současně využívaných diesel generátorů a modelů využívajících malý modulární reaktor doplněný o záložní diesel generátory.
