La Costa Brava ha estat pionera d'una nova forma d'allotjament turístic a Catalunya i Espanya, els càmpings. Al llarg dels gairebé 215 km de costa hi ha més de 60 establiments que ofereixen una experiència de vacances en contacte amb la natura i fomenten la vida en comunitat. Però no sempre ha estat així. El treball indaga en els principis més primitius dels càmpings a Catalunya amb l'objectiu de veure quina ha estat la seva evolució fins als nostres dies, i posteriorment, a través d'un estudi dels càmpings de la Costa Brava, ofereix una visió de la importància que han tingut aquests establiments turístics des dels seus inicis, als anys cinquanta, fins a l'actualitat tenint en compte la seva ubicació respecte els nuclis urbans més propers, la seva superfície en el terreny i els serveis que ofereixen als seus clients, amb la finalitat de trobar una relació entre aspectes que permeti classificar-los
