Abstract
This article analyzes the main vectors of Canada’s foreign policysince it began to have it in 1931, when it ceased to be a Britishcolony. London did not allow its colonies and dominions to signtreaties or alliances, appoint ambassadors, declare wars, and,in general, interact with the outside world. With this objective,the main axes of the Ottawa government’s foreign action areanalyzed, especially with the countries and blocs with which itmaintains alliances and close commercial relations (USA, Mexicoand the EU) as well as its main potential adversaries: China andRussia, in addition to India, the country of origin of its largestimmigrant population. The author also addresses the challengesthat climate change poses for the North American country dueto its impact on its boreal forests, the largest in the world, theincreasingly multiethnic and multicultural character of its society,and its model, the most advanced in the Americas, of relationsbetween the State and the indigenous peoples (First Nations).
