Cuando el crecimiento viene de afuera: dinámicas territoriales en Susa y Simijaca, Colombia

Abstract
El objetivo del estudio es analizar el proceso de crecimiento económico en Susa y Simijaca, explorar sus posibles causas e identificar la distribución de la reciente prosperidad económica entre los distintos grupos de población. Las condiciones particulares de estos dos municipios son propicias para investigar el papel de la historia, la geografía y las instituciones sociales en la determinación de la configuración territorial, la distribución de la riqueza, las coaliciones sociales y los procesos productivos en una región. Para alcanzar los objetivos, se llevó a cabo un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo. Los resultados muestran que los cambios que generaron incrementos en el ingreso de los habitantes de Susa y Simijaca entre 1995 y 2003, obedecen a factores externos y no a dinámicas generadas por el territorio. En particular se encuentra que la consolidación de la agroindustria lechera, la transición de la agricultura a la ganadería y la migración hacía Simijaca explican el crecimiento económico observado en los municipios de análisis. Sin embargo, las divisiones históricas entre las zonas altas y bajas, la creación de nuevas identidades territoriales entre áreas urbanas y rurales y las ventajas geográficas de Simijaca sobre Susa, generaron una distribución desigual de esta nueva prosperidad.
