Abstract
Il est reconnu que la maçonnerie non renforcée présente un comportement défaillant lors de tremblements de terre. Sa rupture entraîne des risques importants pour le public et peut survenir à des degrés de sismicité faibles, même lorsque l'intégrité structurale du bâtiment n'est pas menacée. Plusieurs exemples d'éléments de maçonnerie non renforcée particulièrement vulnérables ont été rapportés suite aux séismes du Saguenay en 1988 et de Loma Prieta en 1989. Le Réseau canadien de recherche parasismique a débuté un projet de recherche qui devra conduire à un guide d'inspection et de réhabilitation des éléments de maçonnerie non renforcée. La première étape menant à la rédaction de ce guide est l'identification et le relevé des vulnérabilités connues et potentielles de même que l'évaluation de leur importance et le suivi de leur évolution dans le patrimoine de construction canadien. Les travaux de recherche présentés concernent cette phase d'inspection et d'identification. De plus, une campagne d'instrumentation et d'observation sous vibrations ambiantes a été amorcée afin de déterminer les propriétés dynamiques des bâtiments comportant des éléments de maçonnerie non renforcée. Ces propriétés pourront ensuite être généralisées et servir aux analyses dynamiques requises lors du processus d'évaluation sismique d'un bâtiment.
