Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

\n \nThe use of aluminium in the construction of road bridges brings a combination of lightness, strength and durability that makes it an attractive option for engineers and designers seeking modern solutions for designing new structures or refurbishing aging bridges. One promising solution for using aluminium in bridges is the use of extruded aluminium decks. Being lighter than more traditional decking materials like wood or concrete, these structures are more susceptible to vibrations and thus exhibit different dynamic behavior. The current research project aims to study the dynamic behaviour of bridges with aluminium deck on steel beams in order to assess the dynamics amplification factors observed in these structures following the passage of heavy trucks. This research project seeks to lay the groundwork for a detailed study aimed at evaluating the applicability of dynamic amplification factors specified by American and Canadian design standards, which are used for the design of this type of structure in Canada. The St-Ambroise Bridge, consisting of an extruded aluminum deck placed on five main steel beams, is studied here. Specifically, a finite element numerical model of bridge-vehicle interaction coupling the American H20-44 truck with the structure of the St-Ambroise Bridge and incorporating road roughness profiles is developed using the COMSOL environment. Simulations in static and dynamic regimes are then carried out to evaluate the dynamic behavior of the structure. Finally, the results of simulations conducted using this model are compared to the results of in-situ dynamic tests carried out in 2015 by the “Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec” on the St-Ambroise Bridge structure. It is demonstrated that the behavior of the numerical model yields amplification factors similar to those obtained in the field. Although only a few different loading cases were ultimately realized within the scope of this research project, the dynamic amplification factors obtained for the studied cases are lower than those prescribed by the sizing standards for this type of structure.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
