Abstract
“ Art is not what you see,” wrote Edgar Degas, “but what you make others see.” Indigenous artist David General’s 2011 spiritually symbolic bronze sculpture, ‘His Messenger, Our Prayers’, graces the Waterloo Region (Ontario) Museum main entrance. In this sculpture, fire and smoke set an eagle free, carrying the thanksgiving prayer upward, reminding us of the role of the Divine in our lives. Kevin MacLeod’s drumming and flute composition, ‘Night of the Owl’, accompanies the artwork's close up images.
