The EPSRC tri-corr network was set up to provide a forum for research in the highly interdisciplinary area of tribo-corrosion. Particulate erosion and sliding wear, in aqueous media, occur in many diverse environments, which include the minerals processing, offshore, healthcare, and food processing industries. This special issue includes a selection of papers from two of the Network workshops, one which was organized in London in September 2000, with the Institute of Physics, and the other in Vancouver in April 2001, with Howard Hawthorne of the National Research Council Canada. The attendance included delegates from South Africa, Australia, Canada, US, UK, Ireland as well mainland Europe. The focus of this issue will be on erosion-corrosion, although two papers are included which detail new advances in the understanding of sliding wear and abrasive wear with corrosion.
