Smoking and weight concerns develop in adolescence. Research suggests there may be a positive association between weight concerns and smoking. This study evaluated the relationship between weight perceptions in early adolescence and young adult smoking, and described the relationship between psychological distress, weight perception and smoking behaviour among girls. The study involved a secondary analysis of data from a prospective study of a cohort of Ontario adolescents. This study used information collected when the cohort was in Grade .gistic regression and structural equation modeling were used to examine the relationship between smoking and weight perception over the study period. Analyses revealed weight perception and psychological distress were significantly associated and were prospective predictors of young adult smoking. Prevention and cessation programs targeting these risk factors may help reduce the prevalence of tobacco use among young women
