Direct and indirect measurement: Exploring early adolescent cognitive risk for depression
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Research suggests that children's emotional difficulties are highly prevalent and on the rise. The current study assessed how direct and indirect measures of self- and relational-schemas relate and predict depression symptoms in a community sample of youth. A sample of 172 youth (9-14 years of age) was recruited from elementary schools in the Wellington Catholic District School Board in Guelph, Ontario. Students completed computer-based measures assessing aspects of cognitive schemas and depression symptoms. For the first time in an early adolescent sample, multivariate analyses revealed that schema content, organization, and automatic cognitive processes were significant, unique predictors of depression symptoms. Importantly, support was garnered for a more comprehensive approach with the additive predictive power of indirect measurement, holding promise for the detection of early adolescent depression symptoms over the use of traditional self-report alone.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.

machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
