RÉSUMÉ : Depuis les années 2000, le golfe du Saint-Laurent connaît un réchauffement qui semble s’accélérer depuis 2010. Ces variations de température peuvent considérablement affecter la structure trophique en modifiant l’abondance ainsi que la distribution de nombreuses espèces. Le rorqual commun (Balaenoptera physalus), le petit rorqual (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) et le rorqual à bosse (Megaptera novaeangliae) co-existent saisonnièrement dans le Saint-Laurent où ils viennent pour s’alimenter et reconstruire leurs réserves énergétiques. Face aux récents changements écosystémiques, ces trois espèces vivent potentiellement d’importantes modifications dans la disponibilité de leurs ressources, bien que leurs capacités à les exploiter reste méconnues. Cette étude vise à comprendre comment la niche trophique de ces trois espèces sympatriques dans le golfe du Saint-Laurent a évolué dans ce contexte de changements climatiques et écosystémiques. Pour ce faire, des données d’isotopes stables d’azote et de carbone de la peau de 1110 rorquals biopsiés entre 1992 et 2019 et de 379 de leurs proies potentielles ont permis de déterminer leurs niches isotopiques respectives, de quantifier leur régime alimentaire et leur degré de spécialisation au niveau individuel. Nos résultats indiquent que la ségrégation des ressources entre les trois espèces a augmenté pendant la période 2011-2019 comparativement aux deux périodes précédentes, comme le montre le peu de chevauchement entre les niches isotopiques. Un récent changement de régime alimentaire vers une dépendance marquée aux poissons pélagiques (capelan, hareng et maquereau) chez les trois espèces et une contribution réduite du krill suggèrent une possible réduction de l'abondance du krill dans le golfe du Saint-Laurent au cours des dernières années. Ces analyses procurent une fenêtre unique sur la capacité de trois espèces de rorquals généralistes à coexister à travers un partage de certaines des ressources alimentaires, en plus d’une certaine adaptation à la pression de compétition. These temperature variations can considerably affect trophic structure by modifying abundance and distribution of numerous species. The fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), and humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) seasonally coexist in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (Canada) where they come to feed and replenish their energy reserves. These three species potentially undergo significant modifications in the availability of their resources, as their feeding ground encounter climatic and ecosystemic changes. This study aims to understand how the trophic niche of these sympatric species has evolved over the past three decades. Stable nitrogen and carbon isotope ratios from 1110 whale skin biopsies obtained between 1992 and 2019 and 379 specimens of their potential prey allowed to estimate their respective isotopic niches, diet and specialization index at the individual level. Resource partitioning among these three sympatric species increased during the 2011 – 2019 period compared to the previous periods, as highlighted by the limited overlap observed among their isotopic niches. A recent dietary shift toward an increased reliance on pelagic fish (capelin, herring and mackerel) in all three species and a reduced contribution of krill suggest a possible reduction in krill abundance in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in recent years. These analyses provide unique insights into the ability of three generalist whales to coexist through partitioning food resources and adapting to competitive pressures.
