Ce mémoire aborde des textes d'auteurs chinois canadiens, tous de générations d'immigrants différentes: Quatre mille marches et L'Ingratitude de Ying Chen, immigrante de première génération, Paper Shadows: A Chinatown Childhood de Wayson Choy, immigrant de seconde génération et The Concubines Children: Portrait of a Family Divided de Sky Lee, immigrante de troisième génération. Le travail débute avec une courte description de chacun des trois auteurs, de leur vie, ainsi que de leur oeuvre, pour ensuite se pencher brièvement sur le genre des textes étudiés dans le cadre de ce mémoire. Le thème principal de l'étude consiste en la variabilité des identités chinoises canadiennes sur plusieurs bases comparatives, mais principalement sur le degré d'acculturation ou de déculturation des auteurs, selon leur état d'immigrant de première, deuxième ou troisième génération. Les points de comparaisons, de divergences et de similitudes sont nombreux, mais nous nous pencherons ici sur trois thèmes centraux: La place que la communauté chinoise canadienne occupe dans la vie des auteurs, la relation avec le pays d'origine et enfin, la présence de la tradition confucianiste en tant que mode de pensée indissociable de la culture chinoise.
