Abstract
First ever knockout stage win for England women For the first time in the history of women's soccer in England, the national team has won an elimination game at the World Cup. England needed 2 second-half goals to beat Norway 2-1. After giving up a goal to Norway in the 54th minute, England goalie Karen Bardsley says the team seemed to be more motivated playing from behind... CUT England had never before won in the knockout stage in their 3 other Women's World Cup appearances--and did so by beating a Norway team which had won the European Championship two years ago. Now, they'll have to contend with a hostile crowd in Vancouver for their quarterfinal match Saturday against World Cup hosts Canada.
