El impacto de la guerra civil española de 1936-1939 en la vida política, social y económica de América fue importante. Los grandes contingentes de emigrantes españoles en el continente, así como los lazos económicos, sociales, académicos y políticos eran fuertes. Las repercusiones fueron especialmente patentes en los países de habla hispana, aunque también se dejaron ver en los EE.UU, Brasil y Canada. Desde el primer momento todos los actores políticos americanos se apresuraron a tomar algún tipo de actitud ante el conflicto español. Estos posicionamientos fueron muy variados; desde aquellos claramente escorados hacia el apoyo a alguno de los bandos contendientes hasta aquellos de aparente o calculada neutralidad. Igualmente, el fin de la guerra civil española y el afianzamiento del régimen franquista, primero en el contexto de la segunda guerra mundial y posteriormente en el de la guerra fría, condicionaron las relaciones entre España y las naciones americanas. En este trabajo repasamos algunas de las aportaciones más recientes a este respecto y ofrecemos algunas claves interpretativas que ayudan a presentar el estado de la cuestión.
