Abstract
This vessel was built in 1890 at Wyandotte, Michigan by the Detroit Dry Dock Company for Walter O. Ashley of Detroit, Michigan who owned her until 1914. She was of 532 gross tons. From 1914 to 1922, she was under ownership of Ashley and Dustin Line of Detroit, Michigan. From 1922 to 1929, she was owned by the Detroit and Kingsville Navigation Company also of Detroit, Michigan. In 1925, she was chartered to Cleveland and Buffalo Transit Company to run the route from Cedar Point to Put-in-Bay to Toledo, Ohio. From 1926 to 1929, she ran from Erie, Pennsylvania to Port Dover, Ontario. She was renamed the "Silver Spray" in 1926. The following year, she was renamed again. This time, she was named the "Dover." From 1929 to 1932, when she was destroyed by fire at Ecorse, Michigan, she was owned by William Nicholson. In image 3890.FR2.20.7.3, she appears as the "Dover." Image 3889.FR2.20.7.2, she appears as the "Dover" at Manitou - Georgian Bay. Image 3888.FR2.20.7.1 she appears at the "Frank E. Kirby" arriving at Reinheimer's Dock at Kelleys Island, Ohio in 1895.
