Abstract
Mary Wegner provided an update from the State Library.She appreciated David Carr's remarks regarding academic libraries' involvement with their communities.She stressed the value to the state of academic librarians collaborating with public librarians, noting that 80% of public libraries have directors who do not hold an MLS.Assisting information literacy is a new role for public libraries and they can benefit from our experience.Regarding the legislative session just ended: no new money appropriated for Iowa libraries, representing a $557,000 loss in funding from the "pre-cut" era.The bill to reinstate library media specialists received lots of support, but failed.Wegner urged academic librarians to consider serving on
