Abstract
El pasado 18 de septiembre falleció en Québec el filólogo, historiador y crítico literario Ignacio Soldevila Durante. Había nacido en Valencia en 1929, y allí vivió feliz una infancia en la cual sus primeras letras tomaron cuerpo en una escuela de la Institución Libre de Enseñanza. Pero llegó la Guerra Civil y lo trastocó todo. En 1939, su padre, juez republicano, fue encarcelado. Aquejado de una enfermedad pulmonar, al comer sólo pan y cebolla quedó muy deteriorado y falleció tras salir de prisión. La madre, horrorizada, quedó sumida en el dolor y falleció poco después. Así, el joven Ignacio pasó a las manos católicas reeducadoras de su familia paterna, si bien por fortuna encontró una ventana abierta al mundo a través de la literatura.
