Abstract
W ciągu stu trzydziestu lat od powstania Krypty Zasłużonych na Skałce złożono w niej doczesne szczątki trzynastu Wielkich Polaków: Jana Długosza, Wincentego Pola, Lucjana Siemieńskiego, Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego, Teofila Lenartowicza, Adama Asnyka, Henryka Siemiradzkiego, Stanisława Wyspiańskiego, Jacka Malczewskiego, Karola Szymanowskiego, Ludwika Solskiego, Tadeusza Banachiewicza i Czesława Miłosza. W 1989 roku, nawiązując do tradycji Opactwa Westminsterskiego, w Krypcie Zasłużonych umieszczono tablicę upamiętniającą Aleksandra Brücknera, wielkiego filologa i badacza kultury polskiej, zaś w 2004 roku - tablicę poświęconą Karolinie Lanckorońskiej, znakomitej uczonej, a zarazem mecenasowi polskiej kultury. Książka składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej znalazły się rozprawy o historii Skałki, o życiu i działalności na Skałce OO. Paulinów, wreszcie o okolicznościach powstania Krypty Zasłużonych. Druga, zasadnicza część książki, zawiera piętnaście sylwetek tych "nieśmiertelnych, których uczczono w "skałecznym" sanktuarium narodowym poprzez złożenie w Krypcie ich prochów lub też - przez umieszczenie tam poświęconych im tablic.
