Actuellement, plus d'un million de Canadiens vivent avec les séquelles d'une lésion cérébrale acquise. L'incidence et la prévalence des lésions cérébrales dépassent en nombre celles du cancer du sein, du sida, des lésions de la moelle épinière et de la sclérose en plaques, combinés. Le traumatisme crâniocérébral (TCC) est d'ailleurs maintenant considéré comme une condition médicale chronique dont les conséquences peuvent persister. La dépression compte parmi les troubles psychologiques ayant les plus hauts taux de prévalence post-TCC, sans toutefois recevoir l'attention scientifique qu'elle mérite. Le manque de preuves empiriques concernant la faisabilité et l'efficacité d'interventions psychologiques pour la dépression post-TCC nuit à l'accessibilité des traitements efficaces et adaptés aux spécificités de la condition des patients. Depuis plusieurs années déjà, les chercheurs et experts s'intéressent aux interventions comportementales pour traiter la dépression. L'activation comportementale (AC) a été développée de manière à constituer un traitement autonome qui s'avère aussi efficace que la thérapie cognitivocomportementale. Comme l'AC est moins exigeante sur le plan cognitif, elle est potentiellement plus adaptée aux personnes atteintes de troubles cérébraux. Toutefois, aucune donnée probante concernant sa faisabilité et appuyant son efficacité n'est disponible concernant la dépression post-TCC. La présente étude de cas visait à vérifier, de façon préliminaire, la faisabilité et l'efficacité de l'AC pour diminuer les symptômes dépressifs post-TCC. L'efficacité de ce traitement sur la qualité de vie et la participation sociale a aussi été vérifiée. Un autotraitement guidé d'AC d'une durée de huit semaines a donc été proposé à cinq patients présentant des symptômes dépressifs entre quatre mois et cinq ans post-TCC léger. Les résultats appuient la faisabilité du traitement pour les symptômes dépressifs légers. Bien que modestes, l'étude dévoile des améliorations sur les symptômes dépressifs et sur la qualité de vie. Aucun effet n'a été noté au niveau de la participation sociale
