Abstract
Ce mémoire explore la conception, la présentation et la réception de la série documentaire bilingue 8e feu : Les Autochtones et le Canada, le sentier de l’avenir, présentée en janvier 2012 sur les ondes de Radio-Canada et CBC. L’État canadien, créateur de la série, la présentait à ses communautés linguistiques officielles, anglophone et francophone, dans le but de les informer sur la relation défaillante entre le Canada et les peuples autochtones. Même si certains pourraient affirmer que l’histoire entre anglophones et autochtones et celle entre francophones et autochtones ont suivi des chemins différents, l’État canadien, comme entité bilingue, a produit la série en deux versions tout en la présentant à chacune de ses communautés linguistiques officielles comme un seul et même produit culturel. Les efforts inégaux déployés entre chacune des versions proposent une réconciliation inégale.
