Abstract
This propeller was built in 1932 by Swan, Hunter, & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle, Great Britain. She was owned by Dominion Tankers, Toronto, Ontario, until 1941, when she was sold to Canadian Tankers, Toronto, Ontario. She was then sold to Shell Oil of Canada, Toronto, Ontario, in 1965, and Big D Lines, Windsor, Ontario, in 1971. In 1933, she became "John A. McDougald," in 1950, she became "Eastern Shell," in 1969, she became "Fuel Marketer," in 1970, she became "Western Shell," and in 1971, she became "Alfred Cytacki." Her cabins were removed for conversion to barge at Erieau, Ontario, in winter, 1972-1973. She was towed out of Toronto, June 28, 1971, by tug "Herbert A." for service as bunking vessel in Detroit- St. Clair River area/ Operated under title of Big D. Line beteween Shell plant at Corcunna, Ontario, and Detroit area. In October 1971, servcie discontinued and vessel laid up at Port Colborne, Ontario. She was picked up by tug "Chris M." in November 1971, and laid up at Port Stanley, Ontario. As "Eastern Shell," she collided with and sank auxiliary schooner "Mont Blane," September 2, 1965, 20 miles downstream from Treis Riveras, Canada, St. Lawrence River. She was scrapped at Hamilton during the winter, 1973-74.
