L'Entrée d'Espagne della Biblioteca Marciana di Venezia nel contesto della illustrazione cavalleresca padana del Medioevo
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This dissertation focuses on the illustration of the illuminated manuscript Fr Z.21 (=257) (Venice, Biblioteca Marciana), the only evidence of the chivalric poem Entrée d’Espagne, written in a French-Venetian language by an anonymous author, who defined himself “patavian”, meaning Paduan. It is unanimous opinion of philologists that this anonymous author composed his work in the thirties or forties of the 14th century. \nAfter a reconstruction of the codex history, located in 1407 in the library of Francesco Gonzaga in Mantua, an overview of the chivalric illumination in Italy between the 13th and 14th centuries has been traced to identify the historical and the artistic context of the manuscript, with a special attention to the Veneto area. \nThe analysis of the illumination style points to a Paduan origin even if some elements may be revealing a Venetian influence. Three different periods have been recognized in the making of the manuscript illuminations: the first two are chronologically near and can be located in the second quarter of the 14th century, while the third one is surely subsequent, and can be assumed to be held in the last decade of the century.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.

machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
