Abstract
The value of agricultural products exported over the first quarter of 2008 made up 1951 mill. Lt and, compared to the same period of 2007, increased by 24 per cent. The imports reached 1785 mill. Lt and went up by 22 per cent. The turnover of foreign trade increased by 23 per cent. The trade balances in the first quarter of 2005–2008 were positive; in 2008 it amounted to 166 mill. Lt. and, compared to the same period of 2007, went up by 56 mill. Lt. The largest amounts exported made up dairy products, cereals, fruits, residues and waste from the food industries, prepared animal fodder, vegetables, preparations of meat and fish, meat; while among the pargest amounts imported were fruits and nuts, meat, fish, non-alcoholic drinks, vegetables. 56 per cent of products were exported into EU countries, and the imports from the EU made up 84 per cent. The largest foreign trade surplus was recorded in respect to Russia. Algeria, United Kingdom, Belarus, Morocco, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, while the largest trade deficit was in respect to Poland.
