La recherche sur les polymères organométalliques est en grande expansion partout dans le monde. Une de leurs applications est dans les dispositifs photoniques. Premièrement, cette étude rapporte la synthèse de polymères organométalliques contenant les fragments Pd[indice]2 (dppm)[indice]2[exposant]2+ et Pt[indice]2 (dppm)[indice]2[exposant]2+, et la synthèse de leurs composés modèles dans la publication intitulée Solution and Solid State Properties of Luminescent M-M Bond-Containing Coordination/Organometallic Polymers Using the RNC-M[indice]2 (dppm)[indice]2 -CNR Building Blocks (M = Pd, Pt; R = aryl, alkyl) parue dans le journal Inorganic Chemistry. Les ligands utilisés sont le 1,4-diisonitrile-2,3,5,6-tétraméthylbenzène, le 1,8-diisonitrile-p-menthane, le 1-isonitrile-2,6-diméthylbenzène et le 1-isonitrile-4-isopropylbenzène. Les polymères ont des longueurs de chaînes variant de 2 à 10 unités en solution qui ont été déterminées par les techniques de la diffusion de la lumière, des mesures des constantes T[indice]1 et NOE, et des mesures de la viscosité intrinsèque. À la suite des études effectuées, les produits sont sous forme de polymères à l'état solide et d'oligomères en solution. Les polymères synthétisés sont luminescents. Des mesures de conductivité électriques ont été effectuées sur les polymères. Les résultats ont été non concluants. Les produits ont été caractérisés par les techniques de RMN [exposant]1 H et [exposant]31 P, IR, UV-visible, analyse élémentaire, cristallographie, ATG (analyse thermogravimétrique), DSC (calorimétrie différentielle à balayage) et de spectrométrie de masse. Ces complexes ne sont pas des candidats idéaux pour une utilisation dans des dispositifs luminescents. Deuxièmement, des nouveaux ligands assembleurs ont été synthétisés avec des groupements éthynyles pour la complexation sur le platine et le palladium. Ces nouveaux ligands contiennent des fragments 1,4-diiminequinones. Ces fragments sont reconnus pour avoir un comportement d'oxydation ou de réduction réversible. Des vagues réversibles en oxydation lorsque les imines ou les amines sont protonnées, ont été observées. Ces ligands pourront servir d'interrupteur moléculaire dans la formation de polymères si les ligands sont protonnées ou non. De plus, les ligands ont été synthétisés avec différents groupements (F et OMe) sur les fragments 1,4-diiminequinones. Différents essais ont été effectués pour complexer des ligands éthynyles sur le fragment Pt(PEt[indice]3 )[exposant]2+ et Pd(PEt[indice]3 )[exposant]2+. Le fragment peut exister en deux formes différentes, soit que les phosphines sont en cis ou en trans. Les résultats obtenus sont inclus dans l'article intitulé Conjugated Oligomers and Polymers of cis- and trans- Platinum(II)-para- and ortho- Bis(ethynylbenzene)quinone Diimine accepté dans le journal Organometallics. Finalement, les nouveaux ligands assembleurs synthétisés ont aussi des groupements (Me et Cl) sur les fragments 1,4-diiminequinones. Les produits ont été caractérisés par les techniques de RMN [exposant]1 H, [exposant]13 C, [exposant]31 P, IR, UV-visible, analyse élémentaire, cristallographie, ATG (analyse thermogravimétrique), DSC (calorimétrie différentielle à balayage) et de spectrométrie de masse.
