Il volume è diviso in due parti, ciascuna curata da una delle due autrici. Nella prima parte, Alessandra Avanzini rilegge Peter Pan alla luce della Scienza dell'educazione, vedendo nel racconto una metafora della relazione educativa. Nella seconda parte, Luciana Bellatalla rilegge il racconto di Barrie, delineando i caratteri di mito cosmo-storico che il "tragico bambino" assume, trovandosi al crocevia tra una serie di miti diversi - dall'età classica ad oggi.
\nIn entrambi i casi, seppure da prospettive e da punti di partenza diversi, entrambe le autrici insistono sulla relazione tra narratività e educazione e sul passaggio dalla costruzione di storie con un senso ed un significato alla costruzione di senso della storia, con cui l'educazione va identificata.
