Le comportement de l'acier est significativement différent à des températures élevées par rapport à la température ambiante. Avec l'augmentation de la température, la relation contrainte-déformation devient non linéaire et la résistance et la rigidité de l'acier diminuent. Les normes de conception au feu de l'acier existantes ne parviennent pas à prédire avec précision la résistance à des températures élevées en suivant les mêmes approches de conception à température ambiante avec de petites modifications. Cette recherche vise à proposer une approche de conception innovante des profilés creux en acier en situation d'incendie au moyen du Overall Interaction Concept (O.I.C.). Le Overall Interaction Concept (O.I.C.) est basé sur l'interaction résistance-instabilité en utilisant un rapport d'élancement généralisé et s'est avéré plus précis et cohérent que les normes actuelles. Un modèle d'éléments finis a été développé pour étudier le comportement des sections carrées et rectangulaires en acier à haute température. La précision du modèle a été confirmée par la validation avec des résultats expérimentaux. Le modèle validé a été utilisé pour effectuer des études paramétriques incluant différentes dimensions géométriques, températures et cas de charge. Les résultats des études paramétriques ont ensuite été utilisés pour identifier le paramètre de conception principal et proposer O.I.C. équations en situation d'incendie. Pour présenter un meilleur niveau de précision et de cohérence de l'O.I.C. propositions, leur performance a été comparée aux approches actuelles de conception anti-incendie, y compris les normes européennes, américaines et canadiennes.
