RÉSUMÉ : La farine de poisson, couramment utilisée dans les moulées commerciales de poissons carnivores, est coûteuse en plus d'être de disponibilité variable et limitée. Son remplacement partiel par une protéine algale permettrait de réduire les coûts associés à la production piscicole et d'améliorer la durabilité de l'industrie. L'objectif était de comparer des régimes généralement utilisés en pisciculture avec un régime expérimental dont 10 % de la farine de poisson fut substituée par la macroalgue Ulva lactuca, provenant d'un système AMTI (Aquaculture Multitrophique Intégrée), et d'étudier l'impact sur la performance reproductive et sur la qualité de la progéniture des géniteurs Pompano de Floride (Trachinotus carolinus). Les différentes alimentations ont été chacune testées 8 semaines, successivement, sur le même groupe de 40 géniteurs, débutant par l'alimentation contrôle (composée de crevettes et krill), suivie de la moulée Breed-M et finalement la moulée comprenant Ulva. Des suites de chaque ponte, la composition en acides gras et les caractéristiques générales des œufs et des larves, telles que (1) le nombre d'œufs par ml, (2) le diamètre des œufs et de (3) leur gouttelette d'huile, (4) le taux de fécondation et (5) d'éclosion puis (6) la longueur des larves nouvellement écloses et (7) de leur sac vitellin et (8) gouttelette d'huile, ont été mesurés. Le taux d'éclosion et le diamètre de l'œuf étaient plus importants pour les femelles nourries au régime Ulva tandis que la gouttelette d'huile était de taille supérieure pour le traitement contrôle. La progéniture obtenue de femelles nourries à la moulée Ulva comprenait davantage d'acides gras polyinsaturés à longue chaîne (LC-PUFA), spécifiquement en acide docosahexaénoïque (C22 :6n3 ; DHA), avec le ratio DHA/EPA et le contenu en acides gras constamment supérieurs aux autres régimes. Les résultats suggèrent que la progéniture obtenue par les femelles nourries avec la moulée Ulva serait de qualité similaire, voire supérieure, aux autres alimentations. Its partial replacement by an algal protein would reduce the costs associated with fish production and improve the industry's sustainability. The objective of this project was to compare commonly used broodstock feeds with an experimental diet in which 10 % of the fishmeal was substituted with the macroalgae Ulva lactuca, from an Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system, on the reproductive performance and quality of the offspring of Florida pompano broodstock (Trachinotus carolinus). The different feeds were each tested for 8 weeks, successively, on the same group of 40 broodstock, starting with the control diet (shrimp and krill), followed by a commercial gel diet (Breed-M), and finally a pelleted feed with 10% Ulva replacement. After each spawning event, the fatty acid composition and the eggs, and larvae metrics such as (1) eggs per ml, (2) egg diameter and (3) oil droplet, (4) fertilization and (5) hatching rate, (6) newly hatched larvae length, (7) yolk sac, and (8) oil droplet were measured. Our results found that hatch rates and egg diameter were greater in fish fed the Ulva diet while the oil droplet was larger for the control treatment. In terms of fatty acid profile, eggs produced while on the Ulva diet had higher n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA), specifically docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6n3; DHA), with consistently higher DHA/EPA ratios and fatty acid content compared to other diets. Overall, the results, in terms of morphological measurements or fatty acid profiles, suggest that the offspring obtained by females fed with Ulva feed would be of similar or even superior quality to other experimental feeds. The macroalgae Ulva lactuca can therefore be integrated into the Florida pompano aquaculture feed by up to 10 % with promising effects on reproductive performance while reducing the price of fish production and utilizing the by-products of an IMTA system. -- Mot(s) clé(s) en anglais : Trachinotus carolinus, partial replacement, fishmeal, Ulva lactuca, egg quality, larval performance, essential fatty acids, IMTA.
