Intéresser les jeunes aux sciences et technologies constitue un important défi. Nos activités de recherche et d’intervention, comme didacticiens au Canada et au Brésil, nous ont conduits à vouloir identifier des pratiques gagnantes à cet effet. Nous nous sommes penchés sur celles qui intègrent les arts. Une démarche itérative entre nos référentiels conceptuels et théoriques respectifs nous a permis d’affiner notre cadre d’analyse et d’identifier quatre dimensions pour examiner nos répertoires de pratiques sous l’angle de l’intégration des arts à l’enseignement des sciences : la pédagogie de la joie, la médiation, l’engagement des élèves et l’usage de représentations multimodales. Cette analyse fait ressortir deux principaux ensembles de pratiques : celles qui intègrent la créativité et les arts comme tâche d’apprentissage, et celles qui utilisent des artéfacts culturels comme la science-fiction et la musique, comme outil d’enseignement. L’analyse plus poussée de ces pratiques montre qu’elles sont porteuses de caractéristiques susceptibles d’encourager le développement de la créativité, d’intéresser les jeunes et de développer leur sens critique. Malgré le petit nombre analysé, nous croyons que ces pratiques et le référentiel qui les caractérise sont susceptibles d’alimenter la réflexion et le développement d’un répertoire de pratiques intégrant les arts à l’enseignement des sciences et technologies.
