Abstract

The central source of inspiration for this work is Habitat 67 by Moshe Safdie in Montreal. With its unconventional structure of stacked and connected modules, Habitat 67 presents a unique interpretation of the modular housing concept. Originally conceived as a response to the complex requirements of urban housing, it combines high density living space with individual privacy and quality of life in an innovative way. The aim of this thesis is to analyse and reinterpret Safdie’s methodology in order to update and extend traditional concepts with contemporary approaches. This methodology forms the theoretical basis for the design of the project. Through the systematic manipulation and rearrangement of architectural elements, new morphological aggregations are created that form the basis for the design of the new facility. The resulting structure is located close to the current Habitat 67 and is intended to form its own adaptable infrastructure that fulfils different needs. The result is an architectural concept that is versatile and adaptable to meet the dynamic requirements of a contemporary urban environment
