Abstract
On ne peut que se réjouir que Sakharov: Science, morale et politique, l’opus magnum de l’historien québécois Charles Rhéaume, disparu beaucoup trop tôt de façon subite il y a de cela une douzaine d’années, fasse cette année l’objet d’une réédition en format poche. Paru en 2004, cet ouvrage consacré à Andreï Sakharov, ce célèbre physicien nucléaire ayant courageusement milité pour les droits de l’homme et les libertés civiles en Russie soviétique au péril de sa vie, repose principalement sur les témoignages recueillis de dizaines de scientifiques ayant côtoyé Sakharov ou ayant intercédé en sa faveur d’une façon ou d’une autre. Ces témoignages, parmi lesquels on retrouve celui d’Edward Teller, le « père de la bombe à hydrogène », furent recueillis par l’auteur entre 1992 et 2002.
