Dadas las peculiaridades de la actividad agrícola, la normativa internacional trata de forma diferenciada y precisa este sector a través de la Norma Internacional de Contabilidad nº 41 (en adelante NIC 41), cuya finalidad es determinar el procedimiento contable de los activos biológicos y los productos agrícolas, junto con su presentación en los estados financieros y la información a revelar en relación con la actividad agrícola, siendo paradójico que en el caso español siguen sin existir pronunciamientos específicos en este sentido al día de la fecha. Sin embargo, pese a que hablamos de modelo internacional, existen discrepancias importantes en la implantación de la NIC 41 entre países. En este sentido, en países como Australia, Nueva Zelanda y Hong Kong existen normativas prácticamente idénticas a la NIC 41, mientras que, contrariamente, en Francia se elaboró un auténtico plan contable adaptado a las necesidades de las empresas agrarias, y en el Norte de América tanto el American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) como el Canadian Institute of Chastered Accountants (CICA) defienden la valoración de los activos biológicos y productos agrarios al coste histórico (Benavente 2009). En este sentido, el objetivo del presente trabajo está dirigido al estudio de la mencionada NIC 41, profundizando en el conocimiento de la realidad patrimonial derivada de la contabilización de los activos agrícolas en las empresas agrarias a través del análisis de estudios empíricos realizados por otros autores, poniendo de manifiesto las discrepancias existentes con la normativa española.
