Abstract
Le présent mémoire consiste en la réalisation d’un commentaire critique sur la traduction des poèmes originaux de A Throw of Particles, écrit par Douglas Gordon Jones. Le commentaire souhaite apporter des éléments de réponse quant à la transférabilité de caractéristiques sémantiques et prosodiques relevées dans l’écriture de cet auteur. Des principes traductifs sont énoncés à propos du traitement des éléments prosodiques, la polysémie, le vocabulaire spécialisé et la ponctuation. D. G. Jones, en plus d’être un poète canadien-anglais important, était un professeur émérite de l’Université de Sherbrooke aux réalisations significatives dans le domaine de la traduction poétique canadienne; il a entre autres cofondé la revue de traduction poétique Ellipse en 1969. Enfin, le contexte dans lequel Jones a traduit de la poésie québécoise (dont celle de poètes québécois majeurs comme Paul-Marie Lapointe et Gaston Miron) fait de lui un acteur social important.
