Abstract
Les compositions du Canadien Ted Nasmith montrent à quel point le paysage constitue l’un des grands thèmes de l’illustration de fantasy. L’influence majeure, ici, n’est plus l’art préraphaélite, mais l’Hudson River School et le mouvement luministe américain du XIX e siècle, dont les peintres (comme Albert Bierstadt) célébraient les grands espaces du Nouveau Monde, notamment de l’Ouest et des montagnes Rocheuses. Une nature démesurée, vierge, presque édénique, que l’homme moderne, réduit à représentation congrue sur l’image, n’a pas encore foulée. Autant de paysages aujourd’hui disparus que les artistes déplacent désormais dans les mondes imaginaires de la fantasy.
