La tomodensitométrie est une technique d'imagerie médicale permettant de diagnostiquer un vaste spectre de maladies. Avec près de 162 examens pour 1000 habitants au Canada en 2022 selon l'Agence Canadienne des médicaments et des technologies de santé (ACMTS), elle représente une technique couramment utilisée. Toutefois, l'exposition du patient aux rayons X émis par le scanner augmente son risque de développer des cancers. La tomodensitométrie par temps de vol vise à réduire la dose nécessaire pour l'examen en distinguant les photons balistiques, utiles pour la reconstruction, des photons diffusés, qui créent des artefacts sur l'image. Cette technique nécessite la mesure du temps de vol des photons avec une précision inférieure à 100 ps FWHM en plus de mesurer leurs énergie. Le système présenté ici numérise les informations temporelles (Convertisseur Temps Numérique) et spectrales puis sauvegarde ces dernières sous la forme d'histogrammes 3D. Ce premier prototype sur composant logique programmable (FPGA) permet de mesurer le temps avec une précision intrinsèque de 16 ps FWHM sur sa plage dynamique de 30 ns et de 10 ps FWHM sur une plage réduite. En parallèle, un banc de test a été conçu pour caractériser des systèmes d'acquisitions haut-débit pour de multiples expériences scientifiques. Ce banc de test utilise des techniques d'émulation des détecteurs et de canaux pour tester des algorithmes embarqués sans accès aux infrastructures des expériences scientifiques visées, accélérant ainsi leurs développements et la caractérisation des prototypes.
