Abstract
Denna uppsats utforskar hur de intervjuade socialarbetarna beskriver sina upplevelser av att jobba utifrån skadereduktion med kvinnor i aktivt substansbruk, samt hur de motiverar sitt skadereducerande arbete med denna målgrupp. Då skadereduktion inte är särskilt utbrett i Sverige, har materialet till denna uppsats samlats in i Vancouver, Kanada. Till uppsatsen har en kvalitativ metod använts, med semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Materialet har kodats utifrån tre teman; Socialarbetarnas syn på sin egen förmåga och handlingsutrymme, Socialarbetarnas syn på kvinnornas förmågor och behov samt Socialarbetarnas syn på risk utifrån ett skadereducerande perspektiv. Materialet har analyserats utifrån en teori om socialt arbete som etiskt arbete, samt en socialinteraktionistisk teori. De intervjuade socialarbetarna beskrev att de upplevde att de fick mer flexibilitet, kunde möta kvinnorna utifrån deras behov och blev mer icke-dömande när de arbetar skadereducerande. Socialarbetarna beskrev att de upplevde en tillit till skadereduktion, att de fått ett mer realistiskt förhållningssätt till kvinnorna, att maktobalansen utjämnas och att deras syn på risk breddats. Socialarbetarna upplevde att de fick en flexiblare riskbedömning vilket även sågs som ett motiv till skadereduktion. Vidare motiverade de praktiken med att de får dem att må bättre, att filosofin bakom skadereduktion stämmer med deras egna värderingar, och att det ger ökat utrymme till kvinnorna att själva definiera sina behov och problem.
