The government and legislature of Canada have by various Acts incorporated several Companies for the construction of different sections of the Main Trunk Line of Railway throughout the Province ; and Acts of the Canadian Parlia- ment have also been passed authorising the amalgamation of all the Companies whose railways intersect or join the Main Trunk Railway with the Grand Trunk Railway Company, so as to form one Company, under the name of the, " Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada."Arrangements are accordingly in progress for a fusion of the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada East, the Quebec and Richmond Railway Company, the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railway Company, the Grand Junction Railway Company, and the Toronto and Guelph Railway Company, with The Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada, forming together 964 miles of Railway (including a Bridge over the St. Lawrence at Montreal, which will be constructed under the superintendence of Robert
