La question examinée dans le cadre de cette étude s'exprime ainsi:"Quelles variables sociodémogaphiques et académiques sont associées aux buts d'entrée en formation des étudiants de l'Université de Sherbrooke?". L'objectif principal est de déterminer quelles variables parmi celles sélectionnées préfigurent les buts d'entrée en formation des étudiants de l'Université de Sherbrooke. Une théorie motivationnelle de participation à la formation, celle du Modèle descriptif des motifs d'entrée en formation selon Philippe Carré est énoncée. Le portrait global des résultats est en concordance avec celui des résultats de projets recensés. Les buts d'entrée en formation des étudiants de l'Université de Sherbrooke sont majoritairement de type intrinsèque. Les résultats démontrent que certaines variables indépendantes sont significatives dans l'explication de la variable"but d'entrée en formation". Celles-ci sont (1) l'âge de l'étudiant, (2) son sexe, (3) le type de sa faculté d'études et (4) le type de son programme d'études.
