Abstract
La presente investigación se llevó a cabo gracias al Programa de pasantías para la movilidad estudiantil de la Rectoría y con el apoyo de la Escuela de Ciencias Sociales del Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) y la Memorial University of Newfoundland. En invierno del 2016, las autoras visitaron Newfounland (NL), isla ubicada al noreste de Canadá, caracterizada por su gran diversidad de atractivos. Como objetivo se planteó realizar una descripción de los sitios con valor cultural y natural, así como las estrategias utilizadas para el desarrollo local. La investigación fue cualitativa de tipo descriptiva y para la recopilación de la información se utilizó el método de observación estructurada y entrevista semiestructurada a pro- fesionales de diversas áreas de conocimiento.
