Článek se věnuje současnému poddruhu detektivní prózy - americké etnické detektivce. Nejprve nastiňuje definici a vývoj tohoto žánru a tvrdí, že již samotný zakladatel Tony Hillerman patřil zároveň k největším mistrům etnické detektivky. Článek dále analyzuje Hillermanovu tvorbu z hlediska postavy etnického detektiva, obrazu krajiny amerického jihozápadu, včlenění indiánského folklóru, zvyků a tradic a jejich propojení s detektivním syžetem. Dále jsou podobně analyzovány detektivky Hillermanovy dcery Anne, aljašské spisovatelky Dany Stabenowové a černošského autora Waltera Mosleyho, čímž autorka poukazuje na pestrost způsobů zapojení etnického rozměru do detektivní prózy a jeho využití ke společenské kritice. Článek končí poukázáním na kořeny etnické detektivky v tradici společenské kritiky typické i pro tzv. Americkou drsnou školu.
