Abstract
En los estudios historicos la expresion red social es utilizada principalmente como un concepto metaforico que implica la interconexion de diferentes individuos Si bien este enfoque permite abordar aspectos funcionales de las redes sociales no permite analizarlas sistematicamente desde un punto de vista estructural Superando el uso metaforico del concepto de red social se adopta en esta investigacion la metodologia del Analisis de Redes Sociales ARS para estudiar las redes personales tejidas durante las dos ultimas decadas del siglo XVIII por los agentes sociales detentores de mayor capital social en la parroquia eclesiastica Inmaculada Concepcion de La Canada provincia de Maracaibo de la antigua Capitania General de Venezuela mediante vinculos de parentesco consanguineo y vinculos derivados de las instituciones eclesiasticas del matrimonio y el bautismo La utilizacion de la metodologia del ARS permitio ilustrar un enfoque todavia muy poco utilizado en la investigacion historica y profundizar en aspectos de interes relativos a la creacion de vinculos personales la distribucion del capital social y las estrategias de reproduccion social puestas en practica por los habitantes de una comunidad rural de la America Hispana
