The Effects of Alexithymia and Certain Demographic Variables on Anxiety, Depression, Social Isolation and Somatization: A Study on Seafarers

Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı denizcilerin aleksitimi düzeylerine ve bazı demografik değişkenlere göre kaygı, depresyon, sosyal izolasyon ve somatizasyonların incelenmesidir. Araştırmada 25 kadın, 112 erkek olmak üzere toplam 137 denizciden veri toplanmış olup, Demografik ve Mesleki Bilgi Formu, Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği, Beck Anksiyete Envanteri, Beck Depresyon Envanteri, Sosyal İzolasyon Ölçeği, Somatizasyon Ölçeği ve Görüşme Formu kullanılmıştır. Analiz için Kruskal-Wallis Testi, Mann Whitney U Testi ve Spearman Korelasyon Analizi kullanılmıştır. Analizlerde kaygı, depresyon, sosyal izolasyon ile somatizasyon puanlarının aleksitimi düzeylerine göre farklılaştığı, en yüksek puanın saf aleksitimik düzey grubuna ait olduğu görülmüştür. Cinsiyete, medeni duruma, çocuk varlığına göre puanlar farklılaşırken; seyirde olma durumu ve gemi içi bölüme göre farklılaşmamaktadır. Kadın denizcilerin puanları erkeklerden, bekarların puanları evlilerden, çocuğu olmayanların puanları çocuğu olanlardan, psikolojik destek geçmişi olanların puanları olmayanlardan daha yüksektir. Puanların sektöre özgü değişkenlerle ilişkisine bakıldığında; yaş, sektör senesi, toplam hizmet ayının artması ile puanlar düşmekteyken, yılda seyir süresiyle ilişki bulunmamaktadır. Sektöre özgü değişkenler ile ilişki aleksitimi düzeylerine göre incelendiğinde, yalnızca aleksitimi yok düzey grubunda ilişki olduğu görülmüştür.
