Abstract
L’histoire connectée apparaît moins comme une « école » historiographique à part entière que comme une démarche pratique de recherche, dans laquelle se reconnaissent des auteurs travaillant sur des « aires culturelles » distinctes. Qu’il s’agisse de Serge Gruzinski ou de Sanjay Subrahmanyam, ces auteurs ont en commun un questionnement sur la genèse des ordres impériaux transocéaniques des XVIe - XVIIIe siècles, sur les conditions pratiques de production d’une hégémonie impériale – autrement dit d’un ensemble impérial « métis » de styles de vie et de pensée – et sur les dynamiques de circulation des hommes, des idées, des techniques et des ressources d’un point à l’autre des réseaux du commerce à longue distance à l’âge moderne. Ils ont également pour ambition, par le recours aux documentations en langues vernaculaires « extra-européennes », la production d’un récit « décentré » de l’avènement des « systèmes-mondes » impériaux.
