Abstract
Dans les études sur le Centre d’études sociologiques dans les années 1950, l’institution est souvent présentée comme le premier « laboratoire » de sociologie, la matrice d’une refondation « disciplinaire » après la guerre. À partir des archives du Centre plus que des témoignages de ses anciens membres, le présent article discute cette perspective en montrant comment l’institution doit être pensée, au moins jusqu’à la moitié des années 1950, dans la continuité des modes de fonctionnement scientifiques qui prévalaient dans l’entre-deux-guerres. Afin de faire ressortir les filiations savantes entretenues avec la tradition durkheimienne, l’auteur s’appuie notamment sur la trajectoire du géographe Max Sorre, qui dirigea le CES jusqu’en 1956.
