Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Parrots and other birds have captivated the human imagination for millennia and can be found in many homes worldwide. Despite this fascination, little is known about how life in captivity affects these birds or even what species are kept. This study used an online survey to map bird keeping in Sweden and discusses potential welfare problems these animals face in our homes. The results show that at least 46 different species, mainly parrots, are kept in Swedish homes. Trade in threatened species is also examined, finding that a quarter of all CITES-listed species may have been acquired illegally. The study identifies and discusses the prevalence and implications of abnormal behaviours among companion birds. 87% of birds in the study exhibited abnormal behaviours despite a majority having access to various forms of enrichment. The study also provides a general picture of the husbandry of companion birds in Sweden, offering a starting point for the formulation of future studies.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
