Abstract
This research examines the comprehensive lifecycle management of email communications within organizational contexts, utilizing Library and Archives Canada's seven-phase framework: Planning, Creation and Collection, Organization, Use and Dissemination, Protection, Preservation and Disposition, and Evaluation. The study addresses critical challenges in email management including information overload, security vulnerabilities, and compliance requirements that organizations face with increasing volumes of unstructured digital communication. Through analysis of current practices and technologies, the paper identifies key implementation strategies for each lifecycle phase, from establishing governance structures and metadata standards to implementing retention policies and security protocols. The research emphasizes the role of information professionals in developing systematic approaches to email management that balance operational efficiency with regulatory compliance, ultimately proposing a framework for organizations to optimize their email communication workflows while ensuring proper information governance and preservation of valuable organizational knowledge.
