La borrasca Denise fue nombrada el día 20 de noviembre por AEMET a las 21:00 UTC y ha sido la primera borrasca con nombre de la temporada cuya formación se ha producido en el Mediterráneo occidental. El nombramiento de la borrasca estuvo motivado por las intensas rachas de viento previstas para la tarde del día 21 sobre el archipélago balear y zonas altas del interior peninsular. Entre otros avisos, se alertaba también de la ocurrencia de nevadas fundamentalmente en la zona central de la cordillera pirenaica.
