12th European Symposium on Saproxylic Ecology - Book of abstracts
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The XII European Symposium on Saproxylic Ecology (ESSE25) was held in Florence on 14th-16th May 2025, at CREA Research Centre for Plant Protection and Certification, and represents an international meeting for students and experts to share and discuss of the outcomes of researches on deadwood-dependent organisms The scientific program included 46 oral presentations and 27 posters, covering a wide range of topics, from systematics and evolutionary studies to conservation and monitoring of single species, as well as community-level analyses and innovative methodologies and technologies. A special emphasis was placed on supporting early-career scientists, with awards granted to the best oral and poster presentations by the Forests Monitor Journal. Beyond the formal sessions, the symposium included also a field trip at the Natural Reserve of Belagaio (Grosseto), a hotspot for saproxylic biodiversity, with rich areas of Mediterranean scrub, mixed forests of holm oak and deep beech woods (a rather rare environment in Italy).
Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
