Dans les bibliothèques publiques, les bibliothécaires se positionnent comme de véritables médiateurs socioculturels, oeuvrant pour garantir un accès équitable au savoir, à la culture et à l’inclusion sociale. Après avoir clarifié les notions de médiation et de médiateur, et défini le rôle attendu du médiathécaire, une étude de terrain menée en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (France) met en lumière la réalité des pratiques des bibliothécaires chargés de médiation. Cette recherche détaille notamment les services d’accompagnement offerts aux publics ainsi que leurs perceptions de l’intelligence artificielle et de la transition écologique. En conclusion, l’analyse des résultats permet d’identifier des perspectives de développement et d’ouvrir de nouvelles pistes de réflexion sur la pratique de la médiation en bibliothèque.
