Abstract
Tous les Savants du xviii e siècle subissent le charme de Newton. Bien que l’on se rappelle principalement Madame du Châtelet comme traductrice des Principia en langue française, Diderot a aussi inséré dans ses Mémoires un Texte de Newton en latin et en bas de page, précédé de sa traduction en français. Notre article va d’abord approfondir le contexte culturel et scientifique qui accueille en France ces découvertes révolutionnaires, pour ensuite étudier les traductions choisies et les paratextes qui les accompagnent. Ce parcours de recherche n’est certainement pas exhaustif, mais il ne manquera pas de dévoiler la porosité des domaines et des connexions possibles à travers d’autres pistes à parcourir.
