Abstract
U.S. wildlife officials have released a recovery plan for an estimated 1,000 grizzly bears in Montana â the largest grizzly population in the lower 48 â as they lay the groundwork to potentially lift protections for the animals. Some new rules are coming meant to protect grizzly bears in Montana. U-S Fish and Wildlife has released a recovery plan for an estimated one thousand grizzlies...It includes an area encompassing nine thousand square miles along the U.S.-Canada border......that will have limits on motorized travel, recreational sites and livestock grazing.Montana has the largest grizzly population in the lower 48 and about three-quarters of the bearsâ habitat is on federal land.The Northern Rockiesâ other large grizzly population is around Yellowstone National Park......it lost its protected status last year and faces potential public hunting beginning this fall.
